‘I can’t believe my Great Aunt Emily was involved in that ‘cat and rat in the desk’ thing. Is that the reason she and Grandpa Bernie fell out and never spoke to each other again?” Enima Emptibottom was genuinely aghast at this tale of horrific behaviour.

“It was the beginning of the rot Enima. Your grandfather was always a gentle soul, kind and unable to do anyone any harm, but Emily had become involved with unsavoury influences and she was simply unable to resist what she thought was power,” Jemima spoke softly, intending to comfort Enima and reassure her.

“So what happened then? Why was that so important?” asked Enima, unwittingly leading them into the next part of their story.
